How to bring back those favicons in your Firefox Bookmark Toolbar

January 21, 2006

FaviconFavicons are tiny little icons that represent a website in the address bar of the browser. In Firefox  when you bookmark a page, usually an icon is generated and then put by the side of the bookmark itself. But those who use the bookmark toolbar (a toolbar that is visible in every new window/tab and can be enables from ‘ View>Toolbars> Bookmark toolbar ‘ in Firefox ) will notice that bookmarks brought into the bookmark toolbar (usually by a drag n’ drop procedure ) doesn’t have an icon beside them. Thats where the Favicon Picker extension for Firefox

comes into action. It adds an option to the bookamark properties that lets you define the favicon/icon location on your PC, brows to the icon and then assign it to the respected bookmark/bookmarklet. I personally found this extension very useful as most of the time I come across a bookmarklet and drag it to the bookmark toolbar, the favicon disappears. This way the extension makes a cache of the assigned icon, so even if the original icon gets deleted, the favicons in the toolbar would still be shown as usual :)
