M$ fails me again

December 2, 2005

Yet again Microsoft and its products have failed me…miserably. This time its the new hip (yeah, right) Windows Live Security Centre (Beta!). I just found out about this new release of the Live! family of windows stuff from DIGG. Then like many other curious nOObs I hurried to safety.live.com to take a peek at this shiny new thingy (ooohhhhh….). I was instantly greeted with pep-talks like “What is beta? M$ A: Beta is geekspeak for “not finished yet.” and “Does it cost anything? M$ A:Nope. Windows Live Safety Center is free.” (amazing, when did they learn this nope word? interesting). Then I pushed that shiny yellow button that said “Full service scan”…after a few prolongated moments, I was greeted with the following screen (click the image for bigger view).

               FagM$

It said “Oops, it seems you’re using an un-supported browser or OS, please upgrade”(BTW, I’m using IE7+SP2) …I was like “WTF”? Only MS can pull of such a hillarious feat. I mean, sure its in beta..but dude, you people are like the richest software producers and IE7 is your latest browser for crying out loud. You can’t even trust your own browser anymore? Then i went to their official blog at MSN-Space and more hilarity followed. There were tons and tons of comments complaining about microsoft latest crap-o-center, but there were no plausible replies from the officials (actually, no replies at all). No wonder if someone named “Gopal”(the project manager or some geeky post like that) spearheads your operation, then its bound to fail. All I found there were some smiling M$ femm-geeks and one Indian guy. Anyway, here are some comments that I found “insightful

i tried this buggy scanner and i’d say that’s the last time since it detected mirc scripts as irc/generic.I tried checking what that was supposed to be, “no technical details available”
But it was supposed to be “selfreplicating code” but when i check the script, which luckily was still loaded in mirc it was all code i made myself with 0% selfreplicating code.
Big fuckup since i suspect it just saw the aliases1.ini filename which is pretty common.
So, first and last time with this

and

IE7?

No support for?

You have to be freaking kidding, right?

What happened to eating your own dogfood. Does not ONE single person in this program use IE7, and would have coded the freaking web page to understand IE7 is a valid browser?

Ridiculous… and Pathetic…
