Playing with CSS pt-1

November 22, 2005

cssI’ve been trying to teach myself CSS for the last couple of monthes. I first came across the word “CSS” while searching for a blogging site. Then I saw some examples of how CSS can be manipulated and improvised at CSS Zen Garden and was instantly mesmarized. Indeed CSS is the best alternative to boering and old fashion tables and structures that used to complicate the page loading procedure even more. The beauty of a <div> can certainly surpass that of its predecessor. These days no template is comple without an attached or embedded style-sheet. The potentials of CSS are many, but unless they are properly utilized, they won’t show up right. Thats why learning and implementing css is imperative to web-designing. Some how two of my css based designs were accepted at OSWD, a place for the ultimate web-designers :) . Anyhow today I’m gonna present you with a new project of mine entitled “Project Psi”. Sounds geeky? Nah, its nothing like that. Its just a simple single page design compiled with a style sheet and some images. But it has the very basics of CSS styling. This includes the most simple yet some of the most beautiful css tricks that can be embedded into a markup rich page. Such as:

  • CSS based RSS buttons.
  • CSS based container boxes.
  • Internal usage of <div> tags.
  • Link effect such as dashed border and hover effect.
  • Using custom custom list buttons
  • Here’s a small screenshot of a portion of the actual HTML page:

Download and try out the design yourself. Further discussions on CSS will continue on my next posts. I recomment using NVU, an Open-source free HTML editor+CSS editor to modify the psi.html file. Play with the CSS file as much as you can/will. If you use it on your page/blog or anywhere else, please let me know. ;)

    3. Nice. Good to see a fellow bangali CSS designer. Most “designers” in this country use Frontpage to make layouts. Lame.

Keep up the good work. Feel free to contact me if you need help.
