SAARC and the wizard of oz
The wizard of Oz has been one of my favourite novels since I first started reading story books. It had a kind of dark touch to it; here witches were shown not only as evil succubites but also as murderers and tormentors. The fairytale-like land where the whole adventure took place was full of dark surprises too, with booby traps and monstrous incursions, with disfigured minions of the evil witch from the east and also the advent of ferocious simians. But the motif behind all these “thy bidding” was to show the true face of the famous wizard of oz, to show that those who dictate behind the iron-curtains were infact reincarnation of the very evil they fight now and then. Likewise in Bangladesh, where productive thoughts are muffled ( no matter which political country jeopardises the sanity of this land), where acronyms and ciphers are rarely explained before the public (who are none-the-less great morons themselves)…the tale of the great (yet fake) wizard of oz becomes true indeed.
Lets say the recent SAARC events, arranged with the expense of a great deal of revenue, high security patrolling and guarding every point within a ten mile radius of the venue; what does all these perquisite bring us? Peace? Prosperity? Equal trading ratio? Economic stability? A government panel with members who can speak better english?(unlike most of the sissy politicians like Morshed Khan who use words like “availability” and “nicerer” to express their gratitude)…In truth, such seminars and stuff bring us nothing but annoyance, headache and imperative torment that comes attached. This year’s SAARC summit won’t yield any real results either, there will be relentless dinners, blabbering like “Yo, how’s your wife doing with that new diamond neckless i presented her with?”..and so on. Those who were impoverished and neglected will remain so. The human species can indeed be a pain in the ass sometimes. adios.
