Playing with CSS pt-1

November 22, 2005

cssI’ve been trying to teach myself CSS for the last couple of monthes. I first came across the word “CSS” while searching for a blogging site. Then I saw some examples of how CSS can be manipulated and improvised at CSS Zen Garden and was instantly mesmarized. Indeed CSS is the best alternative to boering and old fashion tables and structures that used to complicate the page loading procedure even more. The beauty of a <div> can certainly surpass that of its predecessor. These days no template is comple without an attached or embedded style-sheet. The potentials of CSS are many, but unless they are properly utilized, they won’t show up right. Thats why learning and implementing css is imperative to web-designing. Some how two of my css based designs were accepted at OSWD, a place for the ultimate web-designers :) . Anyhow today I’m gonna present you with a new project of mine entitled “Project Psi”. Sounds geeky? Nah, its nothing like that. (more…)

RSS-Feed autodiscovery trick

November 11, 2005

htmlEveryone these day’s have a blog or a web-joint where they can write, interact and basically have some fun around. People like to design their blogs/sites according yo their own whim and taste. A simple design doesn’t take someone like Team O’ Reilly to complete. Sometimes, a simple and quick loading design has a better effect on the visitors. But designing a page with MS Frontpage or NVU is not the only thing one should do to enhance their web-experience or the quality of their site. These days a web-site is not only about a few html pages hosted on a server. Now there’s new features needed to form a properly equipped webpage. Features like syndication of rss feeds , a better use of html in the page header and improved CSS properties. Today I’m gonna talk about HTML headers, how to use them and why having a good html header really counts.

Microsoft launches free/express tools for dev work

msThis had to come. A package of dev-tools released by Microsoft for developement work. These tools are actually “express” or “light-weight” versions of their hugely overrated and expensive tools available in the IT market. Microsoft is making it possible for wannabe developers and students to actually meddle with MS code adn make something better out of it. It is to be noted that this fascility to use MS-Dev tool Express will be available for only a year. After that the usual pay and heed process comes. Lifehacker calls it “Lightweight, easy-to-use, and easy-to-learn tools for the hobbyist, novice, and student developer”. The list of available express tools include: (more…)

SAARC and the wizard of oz

wooThe wizard of Oz has been one of my favourite novels since I first started reading story books. It had a kind of dark touch to it; here witches were shown not only as evil succubites but also as murderers and tormentors. The fairytale-like land where the whole adventure took place was full of dark surprises too, with booby traps and monstrous incursions, with disfigured minions of the evil witch from the east and also the advent of ferocious simians. But the motif behind all these “thy bidding” was to show the true face of the famous wizard of oz, to show that those who dictate behind the iron-curtains were infact reincarnation of the very evil they fight now and then. Likewise in Bangladesh, where productive thoughts are muffled ( no matter which political country jeopardises the sanity of this land), where acronyms and ciphers are rarely explained before the public (who are none-the-less great morons themselves)…the tale of the great (yet fake) wizard of oz becomes true indeed. Impenetrable encryption

November 8, 2005

Known mostly as the “Epr-paradox” , a theory suggested by the mighty Albert Einstein gives us an idea to formulate an encryption procedure which is virtually impenetrable. In quantum mechanics, the EPR paradox is a thought experiment which demonstrates that the result of a measurement performed on one part of a quantum system can have an instantaneous effect on the result of a measurement performed on another part, regardless of the distance separating the two parts. This runs counter to the intuition of special relativity, which states that information cannot be transmitted faster than the speed of light.

Lately I found an article on an Australian IT ezine (thanks to digg) about this EPR-paradox being used as a method to encrypt information. (more…)

Indecision

November 6, 2005

un I wonder when my indecisions will end? I mean I’ve been travelling across one blogging site after another. Devoid of my own domain, I haven’t been able to properly utilise my passion of blogging either. If there’s one good thing in a free-blogging service, then there are numerous other glitches that follow around. Like I had a good ole’ blog way back when blogsome started out. Then i switched to Livejournal, then to wordpress.com (which in my view is highly over rated crap), insanejournal, blogger (which is also overrated) and so on. Now I’m back where i started, at blogsome…but this time with a new address. I dunno how long this fiction will go on either. After a month of fasting this Ramadan, I’m really tired of browsing the net + there’s big exam coming up front. I gotta scram now. Geronimo (more…)

Firefox tweaks

A post from another one of my blogs

Here are some of my favourite FF tweaks:-

Taken from Better-than-life

1) look for the profile folder
On Windows XP/2000, the path is usually
>C:Documents and Settings[User Name]Application
>DataMozillaFirefoxProfilesdefault.xxx

where xxx is a random string of 3 characters.

On Windows 95/98/Me, the path is usually
>C:WINDOWSApplication
>DataMozillaFirefoxProfilesdefault.xxx

On Linux, the path is usually
~/.mozilla/firefox/default.xxx/.

On MacOS X, the path is usually ~/Library/Application
Support/Firefox/Profiles/default.xxx/.

2) create user.js file and paste this code : (more…)
